Young Artist Academy

Program Details

The Young Artist Academy offers art experiences for middle and high school students, who have both talent and an interest in art.  The program provides the opportunity to learn techniques and allow for the further development of skills. This year we are offering two different choices for the students. They will need to choose either 1. OR 2. Choice #1 is divided into two 4 week sessions with separate instructors. Choice #2 will run all eight weeks with one instructor. Classes will take place on Saturday afternoons on the following dates: October 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 November 5, 12 and 19 and the classes will run from 1pm-3:30pm.

  1. VISUAL ARTS: TWO DIFFERENT CLASSES WILL BE OFFERED: VISUAL DEVELOPMENT/ STYLIZED ENVIRONMENT DESIGN with Matt Fazio, and 3-D ART with Ashley Nevar. Students will have four weeks each in each class, with an exhibition and contest after. See (a) below
  2. PERFORMING ARTS: Class will be held all eight weeks. This will be –PLAYMAKER’S LAB- with Chris Dayett. There will be a live performance at the end of the eight weeks. See (b) below

To be eligible for the program, a student must be in grade 6 through grade 12.  Qualified Home Schooled children will also be eligible. There are a VERY limited number of spaces and places will be filled on a first to apply basis.  All applications will be date and time stamped so it is advisable that students submit their applications as soon as possible.  We will not accept applications after September 17, 2022.

The classes will be taught by professional, practicing artists who will model the experiences needed to prepare for a life-time of art as either a vocation, or serious supporter of the arts.  There is a new team of teaching artists this year. The classes and materials will be provided free for the students.

  • STUDENT EXHIBITION AND COMPETITION! Students who attend all eight sessions will be eligible to enter one piece of artwork into an exhibition that will take place on November 19, 2022, at 3:30 pm. The Art Center will engage a panel of judges and the 1st, 2nd or 3rd place winners will receive cash prizes.  The artwork will be featured in the Art Center’s December newsletter. A video will be created and will be available to view on the Marco Island Center for the Arts YouTube page.
  • LIVE PERFORMANCE! Students who attended all eight sessions will have their plays debuted in front of family and friends at the Arts Center Theatre, in Marco Town Center, on November 19, 2022 at 6:00 pm.

There is no fee for this program.  We expect students to fulfill their commitment when they are accepted for the program.  We are required to report to our donors. Therefore, students are required to be in attendance and on time for each session.  There can be one excused absence.  If a student cannot fulfill this commitment, we ask that they do not apply.
