As many members of the Marco Island community know, a small group of Marco Island Center for the Arts members and supporters launched a program in 2014 to bring “art” movies, including some foreign and independent films to the island during Season. The group first met that summer to discuss the feasibility of executing the idea. Spearheading the program were Everglades artist, Jo-Ann Sanborn, and retired media executive, Joan Gerberding, both full-time Marco residents.

The annual program was a huge success up to and including the year 2020. COVID forced the Art Flicks program to shut down.

After gathering many of the same volunteers together again, the Art Flicks committee re-launched the program in January of 2025.  Volunteers on the committee include Joan Gerberding, Cecilia and Earl Witten, Holly and Charlie Erker, Jen Eversole, and Kathy Sullivan.

The Art Flicks movie program has a different theme each year and features lively discussions after each film. They are shown on a Tuesday morning at 10am at the Art Center.

“We want to help the Art Center continue to bring more culture to our island,” commented Gerberding, “and we found that the Art Flicks program not only brought some entertaining, educational, and historical films to a wider audience, but our patrons were always more than generous, accounting for over $16,000 worth of donations over the first 8 years of this program.”

As we did in the past, coffee, tea, and sweets we will be served at no charge. And because the Art Flicks program has been so successful in the past, there will also be no charge for admission. We ask for donations at the end of each film, 100% of which are given to the Marco Island Center for the Arts.

We do have limited seating, however, so we will seat patrons on a first-come, first-serve basis. Lines normally start at 9:15AM with the gallery theater opening at 10AM
