LEVEL OF INSTRUCTION: Strict Beginners.
STRUCTURE OF YOUR CLASSES: Each lesson will begin with a demo and then individual instruction. Each student will have a sample of each lesson to keep for reference. Students should be able to produce simple paintings of each subject demonstrated.
SUBJECT MATTER: With a few expressive brushstrokes learn to paint graceful bamboo and orchids, beautiful iris, stately mums and lively songbirds. Also learn how to mount and present rice paper paintings and much more.
MATERIALS: Everything needed for the workshop is included in the material fee. Bring your own watercolor paints if you like.

STRUCTURE OF YOUR CLASSES: This class is for those who know the basic brushstrokes and have painted on rice paper before. The class will explore various flowers and birds and compositions. Students should be able to produce simple paintings of each subject demonstrated.
SUBJECT MATTER: With a few expressive brush strokes learn to paint graceful bamboo and orchids, beautiful iris, stately mums and lively songbirds in different positions. We will explore oriental composition, problem solving, and also how to mount and present paintings on rice paper and much more.
CRITIQUES: Critiques will be ongoing during class.
INSTRUCTOR: NEWBOURNE
Edythe was educated at Pratt Institute, New York University, Traphagen School of Design, and Syracuse University. In addition to doing graduate work at Zhejiang Academy of Art, Hangchow, China, Edythe studied with I Hsiung Ju, Lui Sang Wong Diana Kan, Cheng Kee Chee, and Lian Quan Zhen. She has taught workshops and seminars in Chinese Brush Painting at Dearborn Art Studio, East Meets West Studio, Henry Ford Community College, Northern Michigan College, Schoolcraft Collage and the Creative Art Center in Michigan. She also teaches at Big Arts on Sanibel Island.
Currently Edythe is Education Chairman at the Art League of Marco Island. She is a member of the Sumi Society of North America and the Florida Watercolor Society. Her paintings are in collections in the USA, Canada, England, Germany and Greece.
